In volume 21 of the Australasian Journal of Information Systems, numerous articles explore how indigenous groups such as the Māori in New Zealand and Maasai in Africa use digital technologies. With topics ranging from social media activism to creating a LGBTIQ portal for aboriginal peoples, this volume comes just in time for the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples on August 9. Other interesting studies include "'Go Cry Over Someone Else’s Tragedy': The YouTube Activism of the 1491s" and "The Whiteness of Redmen: Indigenous Mascots, Social Media and an Antiracist Intervention."
Check out the section on "Research on Indigenous Use of Information and Communication Technologies" in the AJIS journal to read all 10 articles on the subject.
