New & Redesigned PDiN Monitor, February 2012

The February issue of PDiN Monitor focuses on The Future of Public Diplomacy and will introduce a new structure for CPD's regular analysis of public diplomacy in the news. Beginning this month, CPD will graph overall trends in public diplomacy news aggregated daily in PDiN. Monthly analysis of these trends will appear in PD Snapshot while the Spotlight section will provide a more interactive space for public diplomacy practitioners and scholars to hear from one another. The PDiN Highlights section will continue to expand on a trending issue of the month.

In this issue's PD Snapshot, CPD Director Phillip Seib offers his views on The Future of Public Diplomacy. Responding to the question "from your perspective, in what direction do you envision the future of public diplomacy heading over the next 5 years?"a number of PD practitioners and scholars provide their responses in Experts Answer. We invite our readers to add their perspectives in the comments box of this section.

PD news trends from Asia take center stage in PDiN Highlights. In The Republic of Korea's Public Diplomacy as a Policy Tool of Soft Power Consul of Political Affairs Huh, Tae Wan at the South Korean Consulate in Los Angeles offers an overview of South Korea's public diplomacy efforts, while Taipei-based media professional J.S. Samuel discusses the 'Linsanity' media coverage surrounding NBA star Jeremy Lin in Taiwanese or American? Two Nations Bid for Jeremy Lin's Soft Power.
