China's two-pronged Silk Road initiative, including overland and maritime linkages, has won accolades from leaders across Asia.  China is keener on fostering economic cooperation than building strategic alliances.

Chinese Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng urged Japanese commerce department on Saturday to work together with its Chinese counterpart to stabilize, consolidate and promote bilateral trade cooperation following the two countries' agreement to improve relations.

Israel will sign a deal to supply natural gas from its Leviathan field to Jordan for 15 years, Israeli Energy Minister Silvan Shalom said on Wednesday.  An industry official who asked not to be identified said the deal was worth about $15 billion.
