China Daily's deputy editor-in-chief Kang Bing said Fairfax Media's presence in both Australia and New Zealand "means the influence of China Daily will be spread to cover the two most important countries in Oceania", adding that China's "soft power could drive the wheel of its friendship with Australia and New Zealand", according to quotes carried by the Chinese newspaper.

It is seen in the way London itself has become a degree zero of nation-branding.

But what’s less well known to Americans today is his role as the country’s leading propagandist in the early 1960s. A new book by Gregory M. Tomlin called "Murrow’s Cold War: Public Diplomacy for the Kennedy Administration" seeks to remedy that.

On Monday, the Orchestra flies to Asia to begin a three-week tour — the fifth and final tour under a residency agreement with the Chinese government. The trip is designed to promote diplomacy, both cultural and economic.
