International Circus Troupe in Vietnam

The Vietnam Circus Federation will co-ordinate with the Happy Dream Circus Company from Japan to present a daily show in Ha Noi. The event is expected to enhance cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the two peoples, contributing to tightening the co-operation between circus artists from Vietnam and Japan, said Ta Duy Anh, director of the Vietnam Circus Federation.

Piano International Festival Opens in Rio

This Sunday, September 3rd, the “Semana Internacional de Piano” (International Piano Week) arrives in Rio for a second edition. Taking place at the Cecília Meireles room, in Lapa, and Cidade das Artes, in Barra, the festival brings to the stage prestigious pianists from France, Russia, Croatia, Italy and Brazil until next Saturday, September 9th.

‘Post-Truth’ Media Really is Shifting the News Agenda

Information campaigning in various forms is as old as politics itself, and nor is it the sole province of political bogeymen. Research shows that democracies are better than autocracies at influencing foreign public opinion, and businesses, politicians and states all use the mass media strategically for their information campaigns. The names we give a particular information campaign not only reflect our inferences about its aims; they can in fact amplify its power and advance its goals.

Tillerson Moves Toward Accepting Funding for Fighting Russian Propaganda

After coming under pressure from lawmakers, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has taken steps toward spending tens of millions of dollars to counter propaganda by Islamist extremists and governments such as Russia. A State Department official confirmed on Thursday that Tillerson last week approved the use of about $60 million by the Global Engagement Center toward the anti-propaganda efforts.

United States Gives Ethiopia $91 Million in Drought Aid

The United States will provide an additional $91 million in humanitarian aid for Ethiopia to cope with a third straight year of drought, the top U.S. official in charge of assistance said Thursday. The extra funding brings U.S. aid for food and medical care in Ethiopia to $454 million this year, said Mark Green, the new administrator of the United States Agency for International Development. Another $210 million in U.S. aid has gone to development projects.

AUT’s Cultural Diplomacy Venture with Indonesia

Auckland University of Technology has launched a “first of its kind” Indonesia Centre in a cultural diplomacy initiative. “The centre is an acknowledgement of the strong relationship enjoyed between the government of Indonesia and AUT, and the acknowledgement of both parties to strengthen that relationship,” AUT’s Vice-Chancellor Derek McCormack said.

Congressman's Trip to Israel Leaves 'Him in Awe'

U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-District 8) traveled to Israel a few weeks ago with high expectations. The trip, which included visits with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Palestinian Authority counterpart, Rami Hamdallah, as well as meetings with military personnel, from generals of the Israel Defense Forces to rank-and-file soldiers, exceeded those expectations.
