Firms Use Soft Power to Propel LGBT Rights

"Our approach … is to use the ‘soft power’ of business," he says. "These businesses have influence as powerful economic actors and in countries in Africa and Southeast Asia; they are often very important to the local economy. Shaq Brings US Basketball Diplomacy to Cuban Capital

The Shaq show came to Havana on Sunday as NBA great Shaquille O'Neal put on a basketball clinic for local youngsters, becoming the latest emissary for American outreach to the people of Cuba. The 2016 Hall of Fame inductee and four-time NBA champion led star-struck kids in layup drills and coached scrimmages while onlookers cheered from the sidelines, part of a U.S. State Department-sponsored visit to foster people-to-people exchanges with Cuban citizens.

Pakistan to Gain Access Halal Food Market in China

Pakistan, the second largest exporter of rice to China, holds every opportunity to gain a sizable share in the market for halal food as well as fruits, primarily mangoes, through enhanced competitiveness in terms of quality and price, said China's Ministry of Agriculuture Asia and African Affairs Director Ye Anping.

India's Growing Soft Power

“You are the symbols of India’s soft power. You are the unofficial ambassadors, the cultural ambassadors,” Indian President Pranab Mukherjee told expatriates in Windhoek, Namibia, last week. The Southwest African nation has barely 300 expatriates, a miniscule part of a 30 million diaspora spread globally that is being rallied as never before. Mukherjee chose this motley group of businessmen and professionals to propose “a new relationship” with the entire continent of Africa.
