India's Focus on Soft Power

India's rapidly growing economy and its role in the rise of Asia in world politics have created a strong backing for its emerging focus on soft power.

The India Foundation Journal's latest issue recaps the country's first-ever Conference on Soft Power (December 2018) and features essays on gastrodiplomacy, spirituality, the arts, cinema and more.

"[Soft power is] one of the newest frameworks through which India can understand and leverage its role in the international order," said Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Honorable Vice President of India at the inaugural conference. "In this backdrop, it is timely and appropriate to focus on India’s rise as a soft power nation and also engage in discussions on the need for an India-centric discourse on soft power; how to maximize and deploy soft power assets, particularly to furthering national, regional and global interests."
