With so many global challenges, where can the biggest impact be made on global publics? How can the case for public diplomacy be made more effectively to governments, corporations, NGOs and individuals? We can start by tackling the most pressing global issue—water. Water is essential for human life and although we are a blue planet, water is a scarce resource. More than one billion people do not have access to safe water.

China has agreed to open its market to more US films and provide better terms to US studios. "This agreement with China will make it easier than ever before for US studios and independent filmmakers to reach the fast-growing Chinese audience, supporting thousands of American jobs in and around the film industry," US Vice-President Joe Biden said in a statement.

While aid organizations, governments, and local communities are involved in emergency responses, it is defense forces that often have the capabilities to offer logistical support, medical care, damage assessment, communications and imagery. Ultimately, military forces are particularly well-placed to provide life-sustaining assistance quickly.
