world expo

The 2010 World Expo may be coming to a close but the ideas it has provided over the past six months are “invaluable” to tackling some of today's biggest challenges, including rapid urbanization, climate change and sustainable development, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in Shanghai on Sunday.

On October 19, the USC Center on Public Diplomacy's research team in Shanghai released a video conversation focusing on the Swedish pavilion. We all love the idea of Public-Private Partnership in public diplomacy, but always find it easier said than done. Swedish Pavilion Director Annika Rembe discusses the Swedish approach at the Shanghai Expo.

On his China Beat blog this week, Chinese culture scholar and my friend Jeffrey Wasserstrom strongly condemns California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's plans to host a World Expo in San Francisco's Bay Area in 2020. I agree with Jeff's particular gripes about Schwarzenegger's motives and his (lack of) experience necessary for hosting the 2020 World Expo.

While still barely a gleam in the governor's eye, plans to try to bring the World Expo 2020 to Silicon Valley inched forward Saturday, as Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger formally announced his bid during a visit to the Shanghai World Expo and identified Moffett Field as the host site.
