U.S.-Canada Fulbright scholar Cory Doctorow welcomed Michael Ayers, the Toshiba lawyer who negotiates their DRM deals for a discussion on digital rights management, copyright and new technology. Ayers started out as an engineer and switched to law. He was there when the anti-copying standards were set for DVDs, DVD audio, digital TV, Secure Digital cards, and he is the president of the DTLA consortium, which licenses out the DTCP control-ware from Hitachi, Intel, Matsushita, Sony, and Toshiba.

USC Visiting Professor of Public Diplomacy Dr. Eytan Gilboa discussed modern media approaches to covering international conflict from varying journalistic and public diplomacy perspectives in a presentation titled, "The Media and International Conflict" in Annenberg Room 240.


Cory Doctorow is recognized as a Canada - U.S. Fulbright Scholar.

On July 21, graduates of the USC Center on Public Diplomacy's inaugural Summer Institute received their certificates, having completed an intensive, two-week Advanced Training in Public Diplomacy workshop.

The 2006 Summer Institute was attended by a variety of diplomats from around the world, including United Nation's staff members and coordinators, international Embassy officials, and Non-Governmental Organization executives.
