The USC Center on Public Diplomacy is proud to announce that Melanie Ciolek, MPD '11, is the winner of the 2010 CPD Prize for Best Student Paper in Public Diplomacy. Her paper, entitled "Understanding Social Media’s Contribution to Public Diplomacy" is an examination of the U.S. State Department's use of Facebook to increase the visibility and impact of President Obama's planned visit to Indonesia.

On August 25, the USC Center on Public Diplomacy's research team in Shanghai released a video conversation focusing on the Brazilian pavilion. In this video, Brazilian Pavilion Director Pedro Wendler discusses the country's positioning and communication at the Shanghai Expo.

CPD Director Phil Seib discussed public diplomacy with officials of Headquarters Central Command (CENTCOM) in Tampa, Fla. Aug. 18.

On August 12, the USC Center on Public Diplomacy's research team in Shanghai released a video conversation focusing on the South Korean pavilion.

The USC Center on Public Diplomacy wrapped up its fifth annual Summer Institute here July 30.

Kathy Fitzpatrick, a CPD Research Fellow and professor and director of graduate studies in public relations in the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn., taught the class “Non-State Actors and Public Diplomacy” on July 26. The primary goal, said Fitzpatrick, was to examine the role of non-state actors and the strategic options associated with public-private partnerships.

On August 5, the USC Center on Public Diplomacy's research team in Shanghai released a video montage of different pavilions after dark.
