Congratulations to Michelle Bachelet, a supporter of global public diplomacy and contributor to CPD, on her re-election to the Chilean presidency.
Between 2006 and 2010, Bachelet served her first term as president of Chile and left office with high public approval ratings. She was then tapped to lead a new United Nations agency, UN Women. During her tenure with UN Women, she created and strengthened partnerships within civil society, governments, and the private sector to improve the lives of women and girls globally, and to increase women’s economic empowerment, and participation in public life.
In fall 2012, Bachelet wrote a piece for CPD’s PDiN Monitor discussing the vital role women play in shaping our societies around the globe, and how the work of UN Women depends on public diplomacy.
