Jan Melissen is Editor-in-Chief of The Hague Journal of Diplomacy (HJD), Senior Fellow at the Institute of Security and Global Affairs at Leiden University in The Hague, the Netherlands, and a Full Professor of Diplomacy in the Department of Political Science, University of Antwerp, Belgium, where he teaches MSc/MA courses on diplomacy in theory and practice. He is a non-resident Fellow with the USC Center on Public Diplomacy at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. As a think tanker-turned-academic, he previously held various senior management positions at the Netherlands Institute of International ‘Clingendael’ and the Centre for the Study of Diplomacy, University of Leicester (UK). Jan has a wide-ranging research interest in diplomacy. He published with leading publishers and journals, serves on the editorial board of four diplomatic studies journals. Jan is Editor of the Diplomatic Studies book series with Brill. He firmly believes in cross-cultural and intergenerational co-creation and in the importance of open science. In 2022, he received the International Studies Association (ISA) Distinguished Scholar Award in Diplomatic Studies.
