Serena Organizes Event on Public Diplomacy

Aziz Boolani, CEO Serena hotels, in his introductory remarks, spoke of the initiatives taken by Serena hotels over the past few years and their contribution to the society. China-U.S. Ping-Pong Diplomacy Commemorated at Headquarters of UN

A friendship match is held at the headquarters of the United Nations in commemoration of the China-U.S. Ping-Pong diplomacy, 45 years after the Chinese Ping-Pong delegation came to the UN for the first time, in New York September 15, 2017. In 1971 and 1972, U.S. and Chinese table tennis teams exchanged visit after many years of estrangement and antagonism between the two countries, opening the door for the China-U.S. people-to-people contact.

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) is organizing a three-day international jazz festival that will witness the convergence of French, Israeli, Korean, Mexican and Spanish artists in Delhi. A forum themed “Vietnamese, Lao, Cambodian women foster friendly cooperation to achieve sustainable development goals until 2030” took place in Ho Chi Minh City on September 15. [...] Participants shared experience in improving women empowerment, particularly in economic and political fields, preventing women and child trafficking, promoting tourism and international cooperation, and educating young generations about the development of traditional friendship and collaboration among women in the three countries.

Belarus to Host Days of Kazakhstan Culture in 2018

Days of Kazakhstan Culture in Belarus will be held in 2018, head of the main culture and analytics department at the Culture Ministry Vasily Chernik said at the international conference "Kazakhstan-Belarus: 25 years of diplomatic relations. [...] Belarus and Kazakhstan have been steadily developing cultural cooperation in line with the intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in culture, science and education.

Bangladeshi Troops to Deliver Foreign Aid to Rohingya Refugees

Bangladesh will use troops to deliver foreign aid to the border town that has been overwhelmed by Rohingya Muslim refugees from Myanmar, authorities announced. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told Parliament late on Thursday (Sept 14) that the army would handle relief aid that several nations have sent in recent days.

How Development Aid Serves U.S. National Security Goals

“Economic development does work, but it does not work overnight,” Andrew Natsios, former Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (AID), told The Cipher Brief. The problem with common criticisms of aid programs – that they are wasteful and do not produce real results – is that results are often measured only in the short term. As a result, intra-governmental audits and external studies may miss the true dividends of economic development programs, which could come to fruition decades down the line.
