Regional Security in Central Asia Tops Agenda in Uzbekistan

Experts gathered at a conference on “Regional Security and Stability in Central Asia: Key Challenges and Ways Forward” at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on 3 October. The event launched a series of NATO-supported events marking the 20th anniversary of the Partnership for Peace (PfP) programme in the Central Asian partner states.

Firefights Over Kashmir Lead to Hashtag Battle

Users started a heated hashtag battle after Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged fire across the Kashmir Line of Control (LoC).  The recent violence forced tens of thousands of villagers from both sides of the LoC to flee their homes and has resulted in at least 14 civilian casualties.

The showcasing of Japanese culture at the Courtleigh Auditorium in Kingston Saturday night had a greater impact in demonstrating the ties between the two nations, which are celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations, than speeches and product displays.

Australian Public Diplomacy the Real Loser in ABC Cuts

In 2014, the trend has continued with the Federal Government eviscerating its publicly funded overseas television service, Australia Network, which targeted its broadcasts to Asia. News reports this month suggest ABC Radio & Television's news presence in New Delhi and Tokyo may be scaled back too.
