Al Maktoum International Primed to Catalyse Next Wave of Dubai's Development

Plans for the two phased project, which will cover an area of 65 square kilometres in Jebel Ali, was unveiled to His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, over the weekend. With the vision behind Dubai's aviation master plan now crystallised, the city's entire economy is set to benefit significantly.

Iran, Saudi Arabia Jostle for Influence in Sudan as Iranian Cultural Centre Shut Down

Iran's main cultural centre in the Sudanese capital was closed on Sunday, an AFP correspondent reported, amid reports of Khartoum playing a balancing act between maintaining ties with Riyadh and Tehran.  The Iranian flag still flew above the building on one of Khartoum's main roads across from the airport but an AFP reporter found the gate padlocked and no sign of anybody inside.

Indian Officials to Showcase Country's 'Soft Power' at Toronto Fest

While refugees poured across the border to China telling stories of starvation and torture, in the other direction — thanks to the merchants — came foreign films, television shows and music stored on DVDs and USBs, a link to the prosperity and ways of the outside world. These shifts gave rise to North Korea’s very own millennials, a generation born in the 1990s who are independent, pragmatic and less politically attached than their predecessors, says Park. They’re also known as the “Black Market Generation.”

Iran Cultural Center in Sudan Padlocked

A Sudanese official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Thursday that the centers would close their doors by Sunday. Sudan’s foreign ministry told the centers to stop work and ordered their Iranian staff to leave the country. "The decision to close the Iranian cultural centre is final and there will be no retreat from that," foreign ministry spokesman Yousif al-Kourdafani said, quoted Sunday by the official SUNA news agency. Sudan said it acted in response to the centres’ spre

Qatar Confirms Arrest of two British Human Rights Workers

The ministry said: "All of the actions that have been taken against the two Britons are consistent with the principles of human rights enshrined in the Constitution and the laws of the State of Qatar," according to QNA. "There is a direct contact between the Qatari Foreign Ministry and the investigating authorities with the British Embassy in Doha in this regard," the agency added. Qatar came under heavy criticism early this year over reported violations of the rights of migrants workers building 2022 World Cup projects.
