KEEP READINGCPD Awards 2015-2016 Doctoral Dissertation Grants
The USC Center on Public Diplomacy is pleased to announce Aleksandra Sasa Gorisek and Vanessa Leon as the recipients of our 2015-2016 CPD Doctoral Dissertation Grants.
Ms. Gorisek is researching the role of public diplomacy as strategic communication in multi-stakeholder global governance. In particular, her PhD research project examines strategic public diplomacy approaches that non-state actors use while participating in internet governance debates in order to reach their goals.
Ms. Leon's research aims to examine whether recent Chinese activities in Africa have stimulated status competition between the U.S. and China, causing the U.S. to act in highly symbolic ways even when there appear to be few material gains. U.S. government discourse and public diplomacy programs from the year 2000 forward will be reviewed as well as statements around the 2014 U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit.
