Meet the Man Bringing Chinese Science Fiction to the West

Ken Liu is a prolific and award-winning author of stories that span the galaxies of futurism and fantasy. He also happens to interpret one cultural constellation for another: Liu is the leading translator of Chinese science fiction into English. “Science fiction can’t tell us a lot about the future,” he insists. “It’s more interesting for what it says about the society that produces it.”

France, EU Donate €35.5m for ‘Lake Chad Initiative’ Development Aid

The government of France and European Union (EU) have concluded plans to contribute the sum of €35.5 million in aid package for the rehabilitation and development of North-east Nigeria and especially Lake Chad Basin region devastated by the Boko Haram terrorism. The Adviser for Africa in the Office of the Presidency, L’Elysee, Paris, France, Mr. Thomas Melonio [...] stated that France in its ‘Lake Chad Initiative’ programme, will increase its financial and humanitarian input for the development of the Lake Chad region.

Dubai, China Sign Deal to Boost Student Exchange

Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and the Chinese Service Centre for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) signed an agreement to enable greater levels of collaboration in higher education and student exchange. [...] Degrees earned in Dubai will now be verified by the CSCSE and the Ministry of Education in China, assuring students thinking about studying in the city that their qualifications will be recognised in their homeland.

Israeli-Palestinian Controversy Brings More than Tension to the Table

The Israeli-Palestinian controversy is among the most sensitive and lasting issues in global politics. The 68-year war continues to spark debates among politicians, organizations and local citizens throughout the world. And it has encouraged one Metro Detroiter to join the two sides through food. Mana Heshmati started Peace Meal Kitchen, a gastro-diplomacy pop-up restaurant in Detroit, to gather people around a table, sharing food and exchanging cultural ideas.
